Jominy End Quench Test System

The furnace, quenching fixture, recirculating water system and setup accessories work together as a practical Jominy testing station.

PID temperature control, repeatable specimen positioning and adjustable water flow help laboratories reproduce the prescribed heating and quenching sequence.

The system can be configured for hardenability testing to ASTM A255, ISO 642, SAE J406, IS 3848 and JIS G0561, subject to the applicable test requirement.

A dedicated furnace heats the Jominy specimen before quenching. Maximum temperature is 1200 °C, continuous operating temperature is 1050 °C, and the chamber is approximately 150 × 150 × 300 mm.

PID control, thyristor-based heater regulation and a Chromel/Alumel thermocouple maintain the heating cycle, with control accuracy around ±3 °C under suitable operating conditions.

The standard Jominy fixture is MS powder coated and incorporates the water nozzle and specimen location needed for repeatable end-quench positioning. Stainless-steel construction is available as an option.

A built-in reservoir, 0.25 HP recirculation pump and flow adjustment allow the water stream to be set before each test.

The compact assembly keeps heating, specimen transfer and quenching within one laboratory workstation while allowing practical access for setup and maintenance.

A stainless-steel fixture is available where increased corrosion resistance or a stainless construction standard is preferred.

A closed-loop chilling unit helps hold the quench-water temperature within the required range during repeated or extended test work.

The travel fixture indexes the quenched specimen along its length so hardness readings can be taken at systematic intervals with less manual repositioning.
